American DJ-EDM duo The Chainsmokers have recently been certified Diamond by the RIAA for their hit single “Closer,” which has sold over 10 million units. Prior to this, the song was certified seven times platinum by the RIAA with the most recent certification happening in March of 2017.
“Closer” was released in the summer of 2016 and was a collaboration with American singer Halsey, who lent her vocals to the track. The song quickly became a hit and shot to the top of Billboard Hot 100 charts back in 2016. It would then go on to take over twelve separate genre charts and it would tie a handful of other songs to become one of the forth-longest number 1 hits in Billboard history.
“Closer” has collected a number of awards and earned The Chainsmokers their first Grammy nomination. However, at the Grammy’s the duo would lose in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category to Twenty One Pilots and their hit single “Stressed Out.”
Prior to closer, The Chainsmokers had a few previous singles, most notably “Don’t Let me Down,” “Roses,” and “#Selfie.” “Closer” has been their greatest success and ended up being the breakout hit for Halsey. DJs Drew Taggert and Alex Pall uploaded a picture of them posing with their Diamond records to Instagram while Halsey uploaded a picture of her Diamond Record to Instagram. are excited to see where their music takes them. The Chainsmokers have earned over $45.5 Million in 2018 and the duo’s 2017 debut album Memories… Do Not Open is the third longest number 1 album on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Albums chart, it’s tied with Gorillaz’s album Demon Days for that honor. It sat at number one for 34 weeks and still sits at number 4, at the time of writing.
